Hines Ward expects to play in Pittsburgh Steelers next game despite concussion
Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Hines Ward was obviously a little upset about seeing his streak of 186 consecutive games with at least one reception come to an end against the New England Patriots.
Ward stated that he should have been allowed to return to the game after receiving a concussion late in the first quarter. "I wanted to go back in, but they wouldn't let me."
He was taken out after a hard hit while stretching to catch a pass that was initially ruled a completion, but was later overturned.
Although he will have to pass a series of neurological tests in order to receive clearance from doctors to play, Ward is confident he will be in the Steelers lineup on Sunday 21 November when they take on the Oakland Raiders.
"It's football. You get your bell rung," Ward told the media recently when asked about his situation. "It's my body. I feel like if I want to go back out there, I feel like I should have the right. If I don't stumble, I'm right back in the game, but prideful
me, I'm trying to get off the field quick. I should have laid there another minute or so."
Ward has played for the Steelers for his entire 13-year career and has been a model of consistency while being named to the Pro Bowl four times and winning two Super Bowls.
Known for his physical style of play and his reputation as one of the best blocking receivers in the NFL, Ward has managed to stave off major injuries during his career, and it seems unlikely that his recent knock to the noggin should keep him out for any
significant amount of time.
