Hinesville is younger and less wealthy than Georgia overall.  

In Liberty County, where Hinesville is located, the median age is less than 26, compared to a statewide average of 33.4 years old.  African Americans make up 46% of Hinesville's population, whites are 38.8 %, and Hispanic are 9.1%.  There are scatterings of Asians, American Indians, and people of mixed race.  The total population went down 2.8% between 2000 and 2006.

Housing costs are low, but prices are gradually rising.  In 2005, the average house/condo value in Hinesville was $81,300 (it was $77,700 in 2000), compared to an average for Geogia of $147,500.  The estimated median household income in 2005 was $33,800.  That's actually lower than in 2000, when it was $35,013, due to job losses (which also explains the decline in population). The Georgia average in 2005 was $45,604.  On the other hand, the unemployment rate as of September 2007 was 4.3%, which is slightly below average, so that's good news.

Unfortunately, the crime rate is considerably above the national average for comparably sized communities.  The Crime Index for Hinesville in 2005, the latest year for which information is available, was 442.8.  The nationwide Crime Index was 284.5.  The good news is that crime in Hinesville does not appear to be rising. In fact, it has been stable or declining since about 1999.  Burglary and ordinary theft appear to be the biggest problems.  There were no murders in 2005, 14 rapes, and 55 robberies.  

Hinesville has one hospital, Liberty Memorial, and there are others in the Savannah, GA area, about 30 miles away.
