Hinges to return once again

Last season it was Kim Clijsters, this season it was Justine Henin at first and now Martina Hingis who is likely to be the next name in the list to come out of her retirement once again. The former World Number 1 tennis sensation is a five times Grand Slam champion. She is planned to play full fledge World Team Tennis this season. Martina as a youngster ruled the world of Women tennis from 1997-1999. However, injuries affected her play badly during the 2003 season and she automatically started losing her form. As a result, Hingis took her first retirement from international tennis in 2003 which lasted for two years.

Born on 30th September, 1980, Martina Hingis is a professional tennis player from Switzerland. Hingis was born in a family of tennis players. Her mother Melanie Molitorova was a professional tennis player who was once listed tenth among tennis women in Czechoslovakia where as Martina’s father was positioned as high as nineteenth in the men’s tennis rankings in Czechoslovakian. Hingis was named after the tennis super star Martina Navratilova.

At the age of two years, Martina Hingis started playing tennis and participated in her very first tournament when she was just four years of age. Hingis won her first Grand Slam junior title in 1993 and became the youngest female player who did it at the age of 12 years only. In 1994, she retained her Grand Slam junior’s title.  Martina also won the singles title at Wimbledon, and made her way into the final match of the US Open during the same year.

Following her winning streak, Martina Hingis turned pro in October 1994 at the age of 14. She finished off the season ranked Number 87 in the world. In 1996, Hingis became the youngest Grand Slam champion by winning Women’s double title at Wimbledon along with her partner Helena Sukova. During the same year, Hingis also won her first singles title in Germany after turning professional. From there onwards, majority of the tours that Hinges have made have given her success one after the other on different occasions ranging from her first Australian Open title at the age of 16 to her Wimbledon’s victory, Us Open title, WTA Tour championships and a lot more than this. Hingis has nine career Grand Slam doubles titles. She stayed at the number one position in the world of tennis for almost 209 weeks.

Hingis after her first retirement in 2003 return to the tennis in 2005 for a tournament that proved a total failure for her. However, the tennis star did not give up and worked extremely hard and brought her game up to the levels of her competitors. Later on, she took part in World Team tennis in the season 2005 and did perform well. Although Martina managed to grab several other titles in 2006 after her return but still she failed to regain her youthful potency of the late 20th century.

In 2007, Hingis was expelled from the third round of the Wimbledon as she was tested positive for cocaine. Later on in January 2008, it was further cross checked by the International Tennis Federation as well although the tennis legend did not admit of having done it. As a result, she was banned for a period of two years by the International Tennis Federation.

Ever Since Martina has turned eligible, she has not participated in any competitive tournaments. However, the Swiss tennis ace has the chance to prepare her for the upcoming WTA doubles game by taking part in the World Team Tennis matches this summer.

Hingis will be paired up this season in legends doubles on the WTT circuit with Anna Kournikova. It seems from her over and over returns to the game as if the tennis legend Martina Hingis is still not ready to walk away from the sport for good.
