today in PE, we had to run 1.5 miles. i'm a very unathletic 15-year-old and do not run. after that, when i was walking, i noticed that there was an area above my hip, but more towards my back that hurts when i walk. i can't seem to massage the area, so i am icing it. should it be a concern to me? and will it come back everytime i run? thanks for your help!

  1. I have hip pain when running or walking a great deal.

I have since found out that I have one leg 11mm shorter than the other.

While almost everyone is 'uneve' my difference was enough to cause joint strain and pain.

I have had corrective lifts made since and have no pain at all when I wear it.

  2. It is not necessarily something that will just "go away".  I'm an experienced runner and found that certain shoes would give me the same type of hip pain (even within my sub-category of high-arch/cushion shoes).

In my case I found that there was too much width in a particular running shoe and it was causing my feet to slide a little back a forth during my stride.  This sideways instability can cause ankle, knee and hip pain.

Your pain may be temporary and it may be for the reasons that others have mentioned.  But make sure your running shoe fits you properly and go to a running-specific store (i.e. NOT Foot Locker)  if you have any questions about proper fit.

  3. No concern. if you run or walk a lot more it will eventually go away. also you need more potassium in your diet and more water a day or so before you run NOT imediatly before
