i was doing cardio at the gym this morning and suddenly my hip/ thigh got really tight. i tried to stretch it out, walk it off. nothing helped. so now i am home. when i am standing still or sitting it just feels like a tight feeling in my hip. when i walk i limp and it gets harder to move my leg with each step. the pain isnt enough to cry. just enough to make me say ouch or make a face. what could this be and how can i fix it? i am so mad that i only got 45 mins of cardio in when my goal was 1.5 hours....

  1. Did you stretch out enough before you ran, that is a big problem maker for runners? You may have landed wrong and it will wear off by tomorrow, hopefully you didnt tear any muscles? Sometimes a joint will act up as if it is out of place and cause pains too. Put ice on it for now, take it easy the rest of the day and tomorrow do a long warm up and feel for any more pain. If so jogging isnt even a good idea.

  2. Ice it, take some ibuprofen and try a little longer warmup next time.  Also, try the elliptical (less impact) or bike (make sure your knee does not go above your hip).  It could be indicative of hip problems or it could be just a minor cramp.  Only time will tell.

It might be a pinched nerve.  Ice and ibuprofen may reduce the swelling and just try to do range of motion exercises.  If the pain persists in a couple of days, visit the chiropractor.

  3. see a chiropractor, believe it or not the pain in your hip is likely caused by your back being out.
