Hip replacemnet surgery?

hi, i just had hip replacement on 6/24/08, my doctor said he had to cut muscles to get my hip out of the socket., I was born with hip problem for 35 yrs.

Surgeon said it'll take 6 months for my muscles to completely heal, IS THIS TRUE??? currently i'm going to rehab and it's been real hard!!!

  1. soft tissue injuries can take up to a year to heal.  if you don't trust your surgeon, get a 2nd opinion BEFORE the surgery.


  2. Yes and no. Yes in reality, the time frame for the muscle or any tissue to heal is 6 mos. That is the golden period for us to see if the healing is good. No, because it really depends on the patient. If the patient is old it would be hard fot then to recover but if you're still young e.g 40-50y/o, we're expecting speed recovery. As long as you're going into a rehabilitation you'll be good... Thanks!

  3. Why would you doubt what your surgeon said?  

    It takes at least 6 weeks for ANY tissue to heal.  Muscles can atrophy if not used, and with all the movement inherent in the tissue, 6 months is not unreasonable.

    I've heard rehab is the hardest part of that surgery.  Best of luck to you and the new hip.
