Are hipsters really part of a counterculture? Or are they an inexpressive group of posers falling to commercialized individuality?

  1. Good post.  The only counter culture going on now is the rejection of the consumer culture and encouraging DIY punk ethic. Localizing by growing food and doing things on a smaller level is the nuts and bolts approach to an Anti-Globalization movement.

In the 1960's they knew their rights and loved liberty... we're zombies in comparison in this day and age! Apathy rules us and reality t.v. fools us.

Permaculture (google it) is what the Revolution is... The Peak Oil Community is where to get inspired.  The urge to create organic handbags is not bad, just superficial i guess; it's better to be more resourceful & remember that the "meat" of the bible that the hippies really got into was the anti-materialism in Jesus' teachings on the Mount. DIY = fun & freedom!
