Hire cars in the USA - how is the deposit worked out???

I am planning on hiring a car in the USA this summer as I am travelling around everywhere.

I will be hiring the car for around 2-3 weeks in Florida, 2 weeks in texas and for 3 weeks travelling from Phoenix into LA.

That is three seperate bookings - I am not driving continuously around the US.

How much will the deposit be per booking? Is it a percentage or is it a set fee?

What is the best way of paying the deposit?

This is the one thing I cannot get a quote on.

Thanks for your help!!

  1. the driver must provide credit card!

  2. I think this is the best website, I think you dont have to leave any deposit.

  3. YOu need a credit card .Even at alamo and national even when you book online they either call you back(which is what national did ) to confirm booking or when you get there at the office they ask for your credit card.

The most I had taken for a deposti was 500 from a credit card then in about 10-12 days it is placed back on the credit card once the car is returned
