Hirokatsu Hashimoto - Noriyasu Hirata grab the Men’s Doubles title in the India Open Super Series
Japan’s Hirokatsu Hashimoto-Noriyasu Hirata grabbed the Men’s Doubles title after beating Angga Pratama-Ryan Agung Saputra of Indonesia in the final of India Open Super Series 2011, at New Delhi, on Sunday, May 1.
The fourth seeds, Hashimoto-Noriyasu, spent just 26 minutes in two sets to hammer the Indonesian pair of Pratama-Ryan Agung, who defeated the third seeds, Alvent Yulianto Chandra-Hendra Aprida Gunawan, in the semi-final of the championship. It was the first
title for the Japanese duo in any Super Series event.
In the opening set of the match, both pairs delivered superb performance by playing at maximum speed. It was a thrilling fight as both parties were employing powerful smashes along with elegant pushes at the net. Both sides were also employing cross court
net shots to get high clears for executing powerful smashes.
The score was 9-9, where the Japanese pair geared up the pace of the game and established a two-point lead of 11-9. After the one-minute break, Pratama-Ryan Agung tried to put more speed in the rallies but lost their control over the bird.
Hashimoto-Noriyasu stretched their lead by playing an attacking game and reached 17-14. The Indonesian pair made some mistakes at the crucial stage of the game and lost the opening set by a 17-21 margin, in just 15 minutes.
The Japanese duo continued their superb run in the second set by playing brilliant badminton. They were playing a top class game by avoiding unforced errors. The Indonesians were struggling hard to stop the progressive run of the opponents, but failed to
dominate the game. Hashimoto-Noriyasu created a big gap of 11-4, in the first part of the second set.
After the 60-second rest, the Japanese duo stretched their lead by keeping the pace of the game quite high and reached 16-7. They spared no chance for the opponents to fight back in the game. Hashimoto-Noriyasu finished up the second set in just 11 minutes
by a wonderful margin of 21-9. The concluding score of this one-sided 26-minute fight was, 21-17 and 21-9.
