Hiroki Kuroda gives up eight hits against Toronto Blue Jays – MLB Update
New York Yankees’ starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday, May 16 in the opener of a two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Yankees’ starting pitcher looked a bit out of touch right from the start of contest and he allowed too many scoring opportunities to the Blue Jays, who secure a comfortable 8-1 win at the end.
Kuroda was acquired by the Yankees during the offseason in an effort to strengthen the pitching rotation. Earlier this month, the management announced that their leading pitching prospect Michael Pineda will be missing the entire season after picking up
a shoulder injury.
Pineda’s injury gave Kuroda an excellent opportunity to prove his mettle but so far things have not worked out for him the way he wanted to.
"At times (Kuroda) threw the ball really well but when he got a ball up, they didn't miss it," Yankees’ skipper Joe Girardi said in a post game interview.
"I almost got out of the inning but both times I gave up home runs with two outs," Kuroda said using the translator. "I wish I could take those pitches back."
Toronto’s batters smashed Kuroda for seven runs that matched his career high. Jose Bautista and Kelly Johnson added solo home runs off him to give the Blue Jays an impassable lead.
Kuroda’s loss on Wednesday’s evening was his fifth of the season and it will be interesting to see if he can bounce back after allowing eight hits and season high three home runs against the John Farrell and company.
Striking out six during the contest, there is no denying the fact he has unmatchable throwing abilities. However, to earn fans’ respect, he will have to bring more consistency in his game play. Credit should also be given to Toronto’s hitter for the way
they created all sorts of problems for the right handed Kuroda.
His counterpart from the Blue Jays, Klye Drabek snapped his four starts losing streak in an emphatic fashion, giving up just three hits in seven plus innings.
