Hiroki Kuroda shines as New York Yankees shutout Toronto Blue Jays 6-0 – MLB Update
New York Yankees shut-out the Toronto Blue Jays 6-0 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Wednesday, July 18 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Joe Girardi and company absolutely dominated their opponents in a game that proved to be complete one sided. Yankees’ pitching rotation, once again, played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as they did not allow the Blue Jays to score a run.
Yankees had the better of their American League East rivals in both the opening two games of the series. C.C. Sabathia made an impressive comeback from the Disabled List on Tuesday to grab his 10th win of the season. However, it was the starting
pitcher Hiroki Kuroda who led the Yankees to another stunning win on Wednesday.
Kuroda pitched seven solid innings, giving up just four hits with five strike-outs to shut-out the Blue Jays. With his win against Toronto, he also improved his record to 9-7 and it will be interesting to see if he can continue his superb form throughout
this season.
"We've pitched well. We've swung the bats well the last couple of weeks. I mean really, really well," manager Joe Girardi said. "I've been really pleased with how -- it's kind of been shared. It hasn't been one or two guys doing all the work. You've gotten
contributions from so many different people in this lineup.”
Nick Swisher provided the Yankees with a decent start as he singled to right and Derek Jeter scored the opening run. Mark Teixeira continued to impress with his bat as he homered to left-centre in the first and the Yankees extended their lead 3-0.
Adam Jones clinched a single to right and Dewayne Wise drove in a couple of runs to help the Yankees end the game on a high. New York will be happy with their performance as they managed to completely dominate the Blue Jays. Since the start of the second
half of the regular season, the Yankees are looking very strong as obvious contenders for post-season play.
