Hiroki Kuroda sparks as Los Angeles Dodgers defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2 - MLB Update
Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting pitcher, Hiroki Kuroda had a tremendous day with the ball as he threw six innings with an ERA of just 3.19 and had seven strike-outs in the Dodgers’ 7-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles on September
16.
Neil Walker drove a double-run shot to right-field but Alex Presley and Derrek Lee both ground out while Ryan Doumit struck-out without even a single run contribution. Similarly, Matt Kemp hit a single-run drive to centre-field but Dee Gordon ground out
while Justin Sellers and Juan Rivera both popped out without taking any runs for the Dodgers.
Both teams scored one run each and moved the score-board 1-1 during the second inning. Ronny Cedeno hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to the pitcher, Pedro Alvarez got out at second base and Garrett Jones advanced to third base. Later on, Jones scored
the first run for the Pirates when Dodgers’ short-stop Gordon committed a throwing error.
On the other hand, Jerry Sands contributed a tie run for Los Angeles when Rod Barajas hit a double-run shot to left-field. Dodgers went ahead 3-1 at the bottom of third inning when the batters put two runs on their individual score-card. Gordon added a single
run when Kemp drove towards left-centre and Sellers moved to third base.
The second run during third inning was taken by Sellers when Rivera hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to third base and Kemp got out at second base. Fourth and fifth innings went the pitcher’s way as they did not allow runs. Kuroda gave away five hits,
two runs, one homer, two walks and one earned run on his 95 pitches.
Sixth inning went totally in favour of the batters as Pirates added one run while the Dodgers smashed four runs to take a 7-2 lead. Presley hit a one-run homer (412 feet) towards right-centre to keep the Pirates alive. Conversely, Russell Mitchell scored
a single run when Gordon hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to first base and Aaron Miles got out at second base.
James Loney smashed a three-run homer (393 feet) towards right-centre while Jamey Carroll and Gordon both posted two collective runs for the Dodgers. As a result, the Dodgers were able to tie the four-game series 1-1 against the Pirates at Los Angeles.
