Hiroki Kuroda’s aim for one year contract makes him ‘in demand’ pitcher in free agent market-MLB
Starting pitcher, Hiroki Kuroda can invite interest from various organisations as he intends to sign just a one year contract. He has left New York Yankees to become a free agent this year. There are great chances that the Yankees make every attempt to keep
him for their expedition in the upcoming season.
Doing so will not be easy for them in light of the fact that the Los Angeles Dodgers and some other clubs can also be extremely interested in acquiring him.
Resultantly, Kuroda has been put in an ideal position to fetch an expensive deal.
If the Dodgers sign him, they will see Kuroda on their roster for the second time.
There is an equal possibility that the idea of playing for the Dodgers pleases Kuroda. The fact Kuroda has unforgettable memories with the Dodgers can encourage him to decline offers from other teams and join them.
The reason why he wants to have just one year contract is because he does not want to enter into such an agreement which he cannot adhere to.
It is probable that after one year he leaves the Major League Baseball and plays the Nippon Professional Baseball in his native country of Japan.
In light of this, if he signs a multi-year agreement he will be unable to exercise liberty. Fulfilling the obligations mentioned in the contract may restrict him in a number of ways and disallow Kuroda to move to another country.
It will be extremely interested to see how the Yankees pursue him in the free agent market.
Finding a pitcher with amazing credentials who is not looking for a multi-year contract is rare in Major League Baseball. This awards Kuroda a peculiar importance for the organisations as he prevails in the free agency.
The teams without the financial capability to commit their funds over a lengthy period of time on a starting pitcher have an ideal opportunity to do the short term investment and get immediate dividends.
For instance the club like the New York Mets cannot afford to fulfil the expectations of most of the free agents in the market. It is hard for them to ink a deal worth $100 million or more for some years with a hurler, because money is not in abundance with
their organisation.
Existence of the likes of Kuroda in free agency can permit the Mets to induct such a reliable arm on their rotation. In this way, they can sharply increase their chances for the upcoming season.
Although such a move will only be producing temporary results, it can render them in a position to challenge the opposition effectively in 2013 regular season. So far there are no such reports indicating the intent of the Mets in this regard.
As the offseason progresses, it will be exciting to see which club Kuroda plays for in the upcoming season.
