Hiroshi Iwata emerges as the leader at the Crowns Championship – Japan Golf Tour
Two rounds of The Crowns Championship have concluded at the par-70, Nagoya Golf Club. The championship is being sanctioned by the Japan Golf Tour. At the end of two days, Hiroshi Iwata maintained his lead and emerged on top of the leader board.
Iwata played good golf during the second day today. He posted the lowest round of the second day and managed a six-under par, 64. The youngster was in complete momentum with his text book swing and was hitting the ball well off the tees. He was bogey free
for his round and was happy with the way he was hitting his approach shots.
The Japanese had a great start as he made a birdie on the 1st and an eagle on the second. He was three under, after playing three holes. At that stage, it looked like the youngster would break the course record. From thereon, he managed another
three birdies. He had a total of four birdies and an eagle.
Young Iwata now leads the 54-hole Championship by a margin of just two strokes. He has a two day aggregate score of nine-under par, 131.
Brendan Jones of USA and Japanese Yuta Ikeda had a similar two day score. They have a score of seven-under par, 133 after the end of two rounds. Both players managed to post good rounds as they caressed their way on the leader board, after the second day
came to a conclusion.
Jones played well and carded a round of four-under par, 66. His score card showed birdies on hole numbers 2, 6, 8 and 9. He made all nine pars on the back-nine and did not make a single birdie. Jones was quite pleased that he is just two behind the leader
after 36-holes. He will certainly be charging on the leader board during his third round.
Ikeda continued his form in the second round, as he posted an early score of five-under par, 65 which included a total of six birdies. Ikeda had a single drop shot which came on the par-4, 9th. He made three putts and only had to be content with
a bogey. Now, as he is just two behind, he will be a threat on the third day to the leader. The Japanese is looking in great form after playing two rounds.
Defending champion, Ryo Ishikawa was looking uneasy playing on the second day. He managed to post a moderate round of two-over par, 72. Ishikawa was not happy with the way he was hitting the ball and made six bogeys during his round. The teenager also had
four birdies but the effort was not enough to keep him in contention for winning the Championship.
The projected cutline score was set at four-over par after two rounds. The third round of The Crowns Championship will tee-off tomorrow.
