Is it true that Lyra and Will had s*x? It's mentioned sorta, after they touch daemons they "lay together" which is a slightly religious remark about having s*x according to a friend of mine. Just asking for what you think.

Also, does anyone know if there will ever be a continuation of the story because they left out a lot of stuff.

And what does the way end mean when they say they'll meet up at the bench ever middsummer at midday, i get how they'll be close but not see each other but for an hour they'll just be sitting their talking to themselves while feeling "love"?

  1. the touching daemons thing was symbolic i suppose, so yeh maybe they did have s*x, depends on how you interpret it.

Also in the 14th 15th century plus, to "lay with a man" meant to have s*x with him.

I think that's the last book in that series tho.

  2. I don't think that they were serious. They were only teenagers in love. At the end they had to leave each other so they were sad, maybe living the moment of being together for the last time ever.

And the touching of the daemons was sybolic, for it was not right for most to touch another's daemon

  3. Pullman doesn't specify what they do. Maybe they make love. Maybe they kiss. How do you interpret it? What makes sense in your understanding? It's vague for a reason.

Pullman has said in numerous interviews that he will not be writing a sequel in which Lyra and Will are together. BUT he is working on a fourth book in the series, called "The Book of Dust," that will be about an adventure of Lyra's, and that takes place after the events of "The Amber Spyglass."

He is also writing a companion book about Will to go along with his character series (Lyra's is called "Lyra's Oxford," Lee Scoresby's is called "Once Upon a Time in the North" - these are already published and available in stores).

And as for your last question, one character describes the worlds of Lyra and Will as separate, but basically sitting on top of each other. The bench is the same in both their worlds. If, at the same time on the same day, they both sit on the bench, they really are sitting next to each other, even though they are completely separated. They won't see or feel the other person, but simply know that they are there - very nearby, but literally worlds apart. What do you think it means? To me, it's like people who save a loved one's favorite shirt or something after that person has died, or who pray to God/gods they never see. Just because that person isn't there doesn't mean you don't feel a connection to them in a particular place, or from a particular object, or when you're feeling a particular way.

The Oxford Botanical Gardens and the bench are actually real. Someone with a romantic heart carved "Lyra + Will" into the wood. Sweet, no?
