Hisaabaat bolts through the AES Champion Four Year Old Hurdle at Punchestown
The D.K Weld trained, Hisaabaat, spurred up a surprise when he succeeded in the Grade 1 AES Champion Four Year Old Hurdle at Punchestown on 28th April, 2012, under rider, Andrew Lynch.
The four-year-old gelding owned by Dr. R. Lambe landed a victory over the W.P. Mullins trained, Ut De Sivola, by ½ a length, whereas the third place was acquired by Wingtips, who finished 2 ¾ lengths adrift of the runner-up.
Hisaabaat and Lynch raced well and their tactic of speeding in the final stages of the race paid dividends, as he narrowly gained the lead.
Balder Succes, who raced as a favourite with the winning odds of 9 to 4, stumbled and unseated his jockey, Robert Thornton, in the process.
The Alan King trained runner had most of the market attention to his side, but luck deserted him in the race as he could not complete the event.
Unknown Rebel, son of Night Shift, out of mare, Crystalline Stream demonstrated his pace early in the race, as he was the front runner under jockey, Brian Toomey.
Despite the early speed, he could not sustain it and fell behind, which resulted in a sixth place finish for the runner.
Weld was immensely pleased with the performance of the runner as he stated that:
"He has been a very consistent and tough horse and he got a lovely ride from Andrew there. He ran a smashing race at Cheltenham and the two miles and half a furlong there was my worry but he got it. He could be a Champion Hurdle horse but I'm not saying
next year, probably in two years time.
"He was my only runner this week and it's nice to win the Grade 1 - one runner, one winner. There's a big ten furlong Flat handicap in him."
Hisaabaat, the son of Dubawi, out of mare Phariseek, performed well in the Cheltenham Festival as well, as he delivered a solid performance.
The bay gelding finished as a runner-up in the Grade 1 JCB Triumph Hurdle on 16th March, 2012. Paired with Lynch, he lost the victory by 3 lengths to Countrywide Flame.
