Hispania Racing Team (HRT) eyeing an improvement in Turkey: Formula 1 News
Hispania Racing Team’s (HRT’s) team principal, Colin Kolles, aims for improvement in the upcoming race of the Formula 1, 2011 season in Turkey. The race will kick off at the Istanbul Park on Sunday, May 8. The team has been unable to impress in the first
three outings of the ongoing season, but has targeted to catch up with teams like Virgin and Lotus.
Kolles claimed, “I believe that the Turkish Grand Prix should see Hispania Racing take the next step. Istanbul Park is a track that, due to its nature, should be favourable for us. We should be able to beat our closest rivals.”
He further added, “Our aim for the weekend is to close the gap with respect to our closest competitors in qualifying and fight for positions in the race, hopefully getting both cars over the finish line. We are working very hard to improve and definitely
will improve.”
The technical chief of HRT, Geoff Willis, has been trying hard to provide a strong car to drivers, Narain Karthikeyan and Vitantonio Liuzzi. There will be major aerodynamic and mechanical upgrades for the car in Turkey, which should increase the competitiveness
of the team.
Liuzzi was excited about the updates on his car and expected a much improved performance in the upcoming race. He claimed that HRT could surprise a lot of other teams, considering the planned upgrades, which may work out positively for the team.
However, the Italian driver was cautious of making any bigger claims, saying that time will reveal the true picture. He said that the practice sessions in Turkey will give the team a better idea of whether everything went according to plan or not.
Liuzzi’s team-mate was also bullish about the chances of his team and claimed to outpace his closest rivals in the upcoming races. He also targeted maiden points for the team in the ongoing season.
HRT debuted in the previous season and the team was unable to make an impression. The team has been unable to improve from the last year’s performances until now.
