Hispania Racing Team launch car for 2011 season – Formula 1 news
Hispania Racing Team have recently launched their 2011 Formula 1 car but the team is not going to test it until the final day of the final pre-season test session that is currently taking place in Barcelona.
According to HRT boss Colin Kolles, the team will not be able to test its new car since some of the new parts are still stuck with the customs department at the airport. He added that they will have to run some initial checks before testing their new car.
“There are a small amount of parts that are in customs. We hope we can get them out somehow. The plan is to run tomorrow, or as soon as possible basically. We will do systems checks, fire ups - the sooner the better,” Kolles confirmed to reporters in Barcelona.
He added that the new car is completely different from the team’s 2010 model. Kolles is confident that his crew of engineers that is led by ex-Red Bull and Honda member Geoff Willis has delivered a very good car for the new season.
“The simulations show that the car should be quicker than last year's car and we hope to make a step forward. We've worked very hard, Geoff and all the engineers worked very hard, and also production worked very hard to finish it in a very short time. I
think we will be in Australia quite well prepared,” Kolles added.
He believes that the opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season will not be a repeat of the previous season’s opening race where Karun Chandhok’s car was not ready to run until the first qualifying session.
Colin revealed that the team has enough time to set up its new car and make it even better before the season opening race that is scheduled to take place in Australia on 27 March, 2011.
The team recently revealed that they have signed Tonio Liuzzi as their second driver for the new season and it would be interesting to see what the two HRT drivers have to say about the new car after testing it at the final day of the final pre-season test
session in Barcelona.
