Hispania Racing Team to head into 2011 season without testing new car – Formula 1 news
Hispania Racing Team will head to the 2011 season without testing their new car, F111, as they are facing difficulties in clearing its spare parts from the Spanish customs.
HRT team boss, Colin Kolles, said that suspension components will not be out of the customs before Saturday.
They have recently completed their drives line up which includes Narain Karthikeyan and Vitantonio Liuzzi.
On Friday, HRT launched their new car F111. Kolles told the media that the car will be launched on Friday and it will take the track in Barcelona the same day. But not only had missed Friday because their car launch was delayed, they will also miss Saturday
which is the last day of the last pre-season testing.
“The result of this is that we can't run tomorrow. This is life and we will overcome this problem,” Kolles said.
Now the car will hit the track in Melbourne in the pre-race testing. This will be the second year in a row that HRT have not tested their car and gone straight into the season. In 2010, when HRT made their debut to the Formula 1, they missed the testing
and were busy in the development of their car.
They have participated in two of four pre-season tests in Valencia and Barcelona. In Valencia, Karthikeyan piloted the 2010 car on all three days and was not impressive. They missed the Jerez test session and arrived with the same 2010 car in the Barcelona
test. HRT tested Giorgio Mondini and Vitantonio Liuzzi in the Barcelona test and booked Liuzzi for the 2011 season.
In 2010, HRT tested four drivers, Christian Klien, Sakon Yamamoto, Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok. They all failed to score a point. For 2011, HRT have changed their drivers’ line-up completely as they have Karun Chandhok who participated in the 2005 season
under Jordan colours and Vitantonio Liuzzi who was with Force India last season.
The last day of the Barcelona test will see only four teams, Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari and Williams taking it to the track.
