Hispania Racing Team yet to reveal second driver for 2011 Formula 1 season
Hispania Racing Team have not yet selected their second driver for the upcoming 2011 Formula 1 season, as the start of the new campaign draws nearer.
The team has already finalised Narain Karthikeyan as its first driver and the seat of the second driver remains empty following Karun Chandhok’s exit from the team after the 2010 season.
The team is considering Vitantonio Liuzzi and Giorgio Mondini for the second race seat for the 2011 season.
The team took part in the Valencia testing with their 2010 car. The team did not perform well because their car experienced massive problem over the session.
HRT missed the Jerez test session due to some issues. However, they participated in the Barcelona test again with their 2010 car. The car once again faced some mechanical problems and the practice sessions went useless for them.
The Spanish team spokesperson insisted, “We are not worried about the results of the test. Everybody knows that the lap-times during a test are not the most important thing, because the teams use the test in order to prove and make changes in the car.”
In the next and final Barcelona test, the team has decided to go again with their old car.
HRT had released their new car images at the end of February 2011 and announced that their new car launching will be done very soon.
On the other hand, the team is searching for a title sponsorship as it does not have a major sponsor so far.
The team spokeswoman further told the media that they will announce their drivers’ line-up for the upcoming season in the next few weeks. In addition, it is expected that the team will launch their new car in the next week for the 2011 season that is expected
to start on March 27 in Australia.
