Question:

Hissing, what should i do?!

i have recently brought home a new kitten.

i already have two cats.

everyone is hissing and growling,

i know this is normal,

but am i supposed to scold them?

should i yell at them to get them to stop?

or should i just let them be,

and they're eventually back down?

(i've already researched on how to introduce them,

so i've got that part down,

i just haven't found anything about scolding them for hissing/growling.)

i've been using the "time out" method.

every time someone growls or hisses,

and continues for no reason,

i separate that cat in a different room for 5 minutes.

i really don't think it's working that well,

but should i continue to do this?

  1. maybe you should try to get them to do things together or give a cat away.

  2. Ignore it if you can because they just need time to get over the different smells - I've actually rubbed cats together to quicken the process (one will be terrified and the other very angry while one does it).  I've also heard of rubbing them all with the liquid from a fish tin & lock them in the bathroom - they SHOULD all end up l*****g each other, but I have never tested it.
