Historic victory by United States and Italian Juniors at 2011 Junior World Cup: Fencing News
A fabulous opening in the month of February by the Unites States and Italian Juniors, as they took home the gold and silver medals at Fencing World Cup that took place on May 5-6. Italian Juniors were crowned with three gold and two silver medals, while
the US were honoured with the one gold and one silver medal in the 2011 Junior World Cup.
Most of the Italian juniors were listed in the top 19 fencers' list of the event’s ranking in all types of weapons. US juniors are working hard for their fencing and it is expected that they can win the most titles in the upcoming Juniors World Fencing Championship.
In last World Cup these young guys showed magnificent performance. The Italian juniors as usual, retained their position as they are getting most of the titles in every championship.
A female foil fencer, Nzingha Prescod of United States, contributed a lot towards the success of juniors. She won the Junior 'A' Women’s Foil Individual Cup held at Lyon, France. Due to this amazing victory, she got the third position in the Junior World
Cup Standing. The eighteen-year-old young lady, Prescod played superbly and nobody could get more than six touches against her, except Ambika Singh, who lost in quarter-final from Prescod with a near 15-13 score. Her opponent in semi-final was Francesca Palumbo
from France, who also lost by 15-6.
Finally, Prescod took the event of the day after defeating her opponent, Camilla Mancini of Italy, with a score of 15-6. Prescod performed excellently in the foil event. It is seems that in the coming future this young talented lady is going to set a spectacular
record at upcoming Junior Championships. Camilla Mancini got a silver medal and Italian Francesca Palumbo got a bronze medal in this championship.
Kaull James from Washington returned back to his home country with a silver medal from Sweden. Unluckily this junior’s epee fencer was defeated by the Italian, Andrea Vallosio, in the final round with 14-5 touches. But it was a great effort by this young
chap that reached to the final from table of 235 competitors. Andrea took that championship by winning the final.
Batini Camilla of Italy came away from Sweden with a gold medal from Women’s Epee Junior Fencing World Cup. She defeated Italy’s Brenda Briasco and took both medals. The most interesting fact was that the bronze medal was also won by the Italy’s fencer Alberta
Santuccio. Italy has the honour to have top three Junior Epee Fencers in this World Cup.
USA‘s Anna Van Brummen was ranked at number six in this championship. Italian Luperi Endoardo won the bronze medal at Junior Men’s Epee World Cup and was ranked at number third. In the same event Francesco Trani and Saverio Schiavone from Italy were ranked
fourth and fifth, respectively. USA’s Jeremy Goldstein was ranked sixth.
Aldo Montano from Italy won Junior Men’s Sabre World Cup and took another gold medal for Italy by defeating Russia’s Nikolay Kovalev in final. It was a lucky February for US and Italy juniors, full of gold and silver medals and it is highly expected that
they are going to make a history at 2011 Junior World Fencing Championship.
