Historical Quote?!?

for history class i have a quote and i ahve to write a 500 word essay on it. with reasons to back it up.

my quote is ..

" a man may die, a nation may rise and fall, but an idea lives on"

i need help though

my first reason is going to be about democracy because it started way back and still today..

but i needed help with some other reasons and what not.

i also need to find a book that will help me, that i can check out in the library. that would be so much help..

and websites.

  1. Something else you could add to the essay would be the idea of Communism and how it contrasts to the idea of Democracy.  Some good books on Democracy would be:

    "Common Sense" by Thomas Paine

    "Rights of Man" by Thomas Paine

    "Two Treatises of Government" by John Locke (this is where Thomas Jefferson got a lot of his ideas for the Declaration of Independence)

    A good website on Democracy would be:

    www.america.gov (there's a link to Democracy around the world)

    If you decide to contrast Democracy with Communism, another idea that fits your quote, here are some books:

    "The Communist Manifesto" by Karl Marx

    "Materialism and Empiriocriticism " by Vladimir Lenin
