Hit and run accident problems >.<?

Question

I was hit by a car on ends of june in National City CA, and once i came out of the hospital (for the second time and after like 2 months) i find out that the cops still haven't closed the case and im unable to get the insurance information from the car so that the hospital can charge them.

the cops tell me i have to wait for the investigation to finish but meanwhile the hospital is charging me nearly 500k. Any ideas on what i should do?

i&#039;m so sorry to hear about your injuries.  

IF you have an Auto insurance policy you will probably have coverage under there.  your UM/UIM Bodily injury very well may be able to assist you as it provides coverage as a vehicle hit you.  this is still an auto accident.  I know it sounds strange but trust me.

As far as the facts of the accident, it&#039;s taking so long to handle this because the owner is &quot;claiming&quot; the vehicle was stolen.  The insurance is going to look at this as closely as they can 1. to determine liability and if the vehicle was stolen or not and owe for the damages and 2. for insurance fraud on the part of the owner.  

It is true that if the vehicle was stolen at the time of the loss the owner is not responsible.

If you have auto insurance I beg you to call them for advice.  You don&#039;t say what state you were in but most policies will provide medical coverage if you are a pedestrian and hit by a vehicle.

If they can&#039;t find the person who hit you, you will be responsible for the hospital bill.  BTW, &quot;K&quot; is not a proper abbreviation for 1,000 so it is not clear to me if you mean $500,000.00 , $50,000.00, $5,000.00, $500.00 $50.00 or $5.00.  If it is the highest, you may have to consider filing bankruptcy

have you contacted your insurance company and let them know what is going on

Tell the hospital (give ur insurance reg.no) to claim it directly  from the insurance company.

Also send the insurance comp. a legal doc. regarding  the payment--a laywer should help u in this matter.

U will get ur payment in faster.

I&#039;ve _never_ heard of the police not being able to give out the inital accident exchange form. That is, by law the two parties are required to exchange certain information at the time of the accident (including insurance information). If the police handle this aspect of the accident, then they need to provide it. Perhaps they are under the impression that you only want the finalized report, which is not ready. Ask them for the information exchange form.
