Hitachi Ultravision?

What's possibly wrong with the set if it has 'colored snow'. The menu seems to pop up and show normally. I can get it very cheap, but is worth it?

You might have two issues

1)  colored lines--Known problem--Set needs convergence amp IC's and most likely yoke return resistors (if you get a technician that'll do his job well)  $250-$350 depending on the market you are in

2) colored snow---could be as simple as a signal source problem--cable.  Might be the tuner if the only signal you are using is through a coaxial wire.  Try hooking up a dvd player through the composite (yellow) or component (gr, bl and red) if it has them.  If you are still experiencing the snow then the problem will most likely be the comb filter and if it is that would make the TV as valuable as a case of the mumps.
