Ok, so I have been hitting a lot more recently because that's where my coach thinks I belong, but... I have been hitting into the net A LOT! I know that I can hit over because I am a great server. It's just that I can't get my timing right... ANY HELP?

  1. If you are hitting the the net, your are hitting across your body...keep the hitting arm straight so that it will go straight over the net, into the court  If you are doing a five ball start outside...remember the saying..left.. right.. together.. jump.  Watch the ball for timing...don't just approach as soon as the ball is set to you.  Watch and anticipate when the ball is at its peek...then you approach...left..right..togther...JUMP..... both arms up....your hitting hand should be stiff...the other hand is you tracking hand, it will help you see where the ball is.  Jump as high as you can so that you are on top of the ball....THEN smack it DOWN

  2. Bend your knees more, and keep your forearms straight, put your hands thumb into the other palm and use your wrists to hit the ball upwards. Keep forearms straight, and use your legs to power the volley, instead of swinging your arms up and down. Use your bodies weight to hit the ball.

    That was to bump

To volley, try and make your fingers with both hands form a triangle, and cushion the ball, using your finger tips to send it upwards

  3. right when the ball is at its peak, its highest point, you start your approach. start with your left foot back, than u step with your left: huge step left, right, left, together, and jump, swing. you jump UP, NOT OUT! so u don't ride into the net, takes practice! good luck :)

  4. I know this is long... but please read it..i promise it WILL help!

    SURE THINGS

Approach steps and two foot jump

Both arms swung forward on takeoff

    Bow and arrow ready position

Wrist snap for topspin on contact

    HICCUPS

    One foot jump

Ball hit with fist instead of open hand

"Tennis serve" arm action; one arm is swung forward and the other is swung behind

    "Shot-put" arm action

    HITTING/SPIKE

    TEACHING KEYWORDS

    BOW AND ARROW

As you leave the leave the floor to jump, pull the hitting arm back with the elbow and hand at shoulder height or higher.

The hand should be open and relaxed, with the plam facing away from the ear.

The elbow should swing forward and raise above the head.

Then the arm and hand swing over the top as the heal of the hand contacts the ball.

This is followed by the palm and fingers, which then snap through the ball.

Contact point is slightly in front of and as high as possible above the hitting shoulder.

    APPROACH

Right - Left finish. (for right handers)

Left - Right finish. (for left handers)

Three step or four step approach (both o.k.)

Important to both approaches is to make the step preceding the step close a long and explosive one.

Also, important to both approaches is to keep the knees bent for all approach steps.

Finally, be sure to face your range spot when you make your step close.

    JUMP

Jump up (vertically) to meet ball.

Contact the ball at the peak of your jump with a straight arm.

Check landing spot, which should not be more than a distance of one foot past the contact point.

    PRACTICE IDEAS

    1. In pairs, one on each side of the net.

Players toss the ball to themselves (TWO hand toss)

and hit it across the net using the spiking action.

Remember to have the opposite feet to the spiking hand

forward and toss the ball with TWO hands underhanded.

Follow by having the kids jumping before they spike

  5. First hold the ball with both hands. Your hitting hand one top with palm down and other hand on bottom. Then toss it strait up about 3 feet over your head. Wait for it to come down about  1.5 feet to 2 feet over your head then hit it hard but a little downward. You should aim about 2 feet over the top of the net because it will go down some. Then if it was a perfect hit it will hit the top of the net and keep going.

  6. Some general advice:

If you are hitting in the net, then I'm guessing you are coming in late.

Start your approach early, but start slowly. Use your first step to track the ball, and then speed up.

  7. i am going to go with, bend your knees more. And keep your arms straight and pop your knees when you are ready for the ball. And maybe, just maybe. you put your hands lower than instructed.

  8. first step with your left foot    then toss the ball not too high or to low     then swing hand in at tight firm position at the same time bring up your right foot and    then a perfect serve

  9. It just takes alot of practice. You just have to keep practicing at it and you'll do fine! Remember there is a reason they picked you to go there!
