Question:

Hitting Varsity baseball?

I'm going out for my high school's Varsity baseball team next season & I'm pretty good, but the returning players have their spots pretty much locked up. So is it true that if you are a good hitter, that the coach will find a spot for you ? Because I don't want to be sitting the bench all season long behind the starters. Thanks.

  1. K wat coaches like is the u work ur *** off play as hard as u can and when u are at practice always try to be involved they might hate u but its works and really listen to wat the coach tells u ask questions. I was a freshman and didnt start for like 4 games i started right field and i was hitting like 400 and he moves me up from 8batter to 3rd and i soon found myself being the starting shortstop and sometimes catcher i took shortstop from my own brother i was runner up in the team mvp and i led my league in batting average only freshman to do that. oh yea instead of taking that water break grab a bat and practice ur swing 1.Stride 2. 2. No. It's not true.

What is it you're looking for here? We don't know your coach or who's playing on your team or you. What do you want people to say?

Yes, you're great. Don't worry, you'll make the team.

    Happy?

  3. I didn't start playing ball until I was 14, so ended up riding the bench for a h**l of a long time. But I did get off, and I'm a starter in virutally every game now.

I actually found that while skill is extremely important, the coach is often more interested in heart. Maybe you can't hit as good as everyone else, but you can run out every ground ball, show up early for every practice, and ask for extra coaching.

The fact is, most established players get apathetic. Really, skill doesn't matter as much as you'd think. It doesn't matter if a guy CAN play well if he isn't trying. Your coach should know that. And if he sees a guy who's working hard and could really improve over the season, he'll give you the start!

    Best of luck!

  4. Its true, if you get on base and hit for average, then your coach will want you in the game...

.... but even if you are hitting for average, your coach may want to bench you, and well... that is what your role on the team is, being a bench player...

the Role is greater than the Goal.

  5. yeah its true

  6. In case you didn't notice, the bench is still a spot on the team.  I don't care how well you hit, if the starters have their positions locked, you're not going to play over them until they lose their position.  Anyway, hitting is not the only part of baseball, and we don't know your coach.  If you don't want to sit the bench for a while then just don't play.  Otherwise, be prepared to suck it up.

  7. If you can rake as good as everyone else, the coach will find a spot for you. No high school coach will play his favorites. You should get the opportunity, but if you aren't as good at hitting as the starters, you'll be ridding the pine.
