Hitting the punching bag?

well i was hitting my punching bag yesterday for about an hour or so....and i woke up this morning with sore biceps and triceps and also the muscles on my back are sore does punching a punching bag work out the muscles on your back because of the movement you are doing.

Yes, it does work out your arms, shoulders and back, and even your legs if your constantly moving up on your toes while hitting the bag.  It will certainly tone and firm up all these muscles involved and give you a good cardio workout as well.  However, they will not build up the said muscles, if that's what your up to.  The only way to build up your muscles is by progressive resistance training, that is, lifting weights.

  4. The movement works your muscles a little but it's more of the impact of your muscles on the bag. That's why your muscles usually aren't sore after working the speed bag which has no resistance.
