Switzerland's head coach is most likely to come under investigation, after he failed to follow UEFA’s disciplinary protocol as he acted indecently towards Norwegian counterpart during his side’s 1-1 draw on Friday.
The former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich trainer was angry after seeing his side let their one-goal advantage slip in their 2014 World Cup qualifying game, a match that was a subject of several officiating decisions going
against them.
The veteran coach explained that he reacted the way he did because of the emotions running through at the time. He apologised for his behaviour and said that he was frustrated for not winning the game.
The talented manager said his team was hard done by the biased decisions of Spanish official Fernandez Borbalan, and it looked like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Norway-c2974 were playing with an extra man.
"There were a lot of emotions during the game," Hitzfeld was quoted as saying in an interview.
"I'm sorry for the gesture. I was just p****d off at not being able to take home three points,” the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 and FC Lugano striker added.
"It's always difficult to play against twelve men [in direct reference to Spanish referee Fernandez Borbalan]," the 2008 German Football Manager of the Year finally concluded.
However, it is still uncertain whether UEFA will take action against Hitzfeld or be sympathetic towards his apology. Moreover, the European Football governing body fined and banned French club Montpellier boss Rene Girard for a
similar action last week.
Girard stated that Schalke boss Huub Stevens forced him to act in that manner, during the Bundesliga outfit’s 2-2 stalemate against Montpellier.
Hitzfeld will miss Switzerland’s forthcoming away clash with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iceland-c2921 if he is handed a ban of any sort.
The 63-year-old has been very successful during his managerial career and helped Bayern and Dortmund win UEFA Champions League in 2001 and 1997 respectively. He also won five Bundesliga titles with Der FCB and two more with the
BVB. He has won a number of coaching awards as well.
