Question:

Hives or something else?

Yesterday, I broke out in what my mother calls bole/bold hives. They are from my ankles to the tops of my thighs, but they are nowhere else (except for one on my hand and one on my wrist on the left side). I do have allergies, but I have not been around any of my allergens. Could this be something else? It reminds me of the way my chicken pox looked (though I haven't had a fever). I can't get in to see my doctor for a month (seriously!), so I'm hoping to resolve this on my own.

I've been cleaning the lumps with Witch Hazel and applying Cortizone cream or Calomine Lotion, but neither of the lotions seems to have an effect. Some of the lumps have swelling in the surrounding tissue that can be rather large (including one that is so swollen I can barely cover the swelling with one hand. They look just like round swellings that have gotten more and more red as I scratch them (very itchy!). They look pretty much like huge hives or mosquito bites (no mosquitoes or other bug exposure either).

Do you think this is hives or something else?

  1. Unless it is hives I don't know. I have had that happen with so much itching it nearly drove me bonkers. I had to get a cortisone injection.

I would suggest benadryl pills until you see the Dr. Isn't there a clinic that will see you sooner than a mo.?
