  1. I did 5 AS levels, but then dropped one of them at the beginning of A2. The 4 I continued with were Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, which were much more important to me for my career. I was also working all weekend, so I was just exhausted constantly. My friend has recently told me how bad I looked at the time too, just so run down and fed up. As soon as I dropped a subject, I felt so much better! Just having a little more free time to relax made me feel so lighter, and allowed me to concentrate on the more important subjects.

I suggest you only take up four, the important ones for the career you have in mind. What are you thinking of doing?

  2. I did 4 A2 and an extra AS but one of my A2 was general studies....it depends on a few things:

    1) Will the timetable at your college enable you to do this?

    2) Are your subjects linked?  I did politics, business and economics,so due to overlap my job was made a lot easier (one sixth of the business course is economics for example)

    3) What is your motivation?  If it is to get into a good uni would they prefer you to do an extra curricular activity instead to appear more well rounded of are they a very academic institution such as Oxbridge...

4)Do you think you're up the the challenge?  Would you be spreading yourself too thinly and risk getting below average marks in all five rather than good in 4 or very good in three?

    5) What other commitments do you have on your time such as extra curricular activities, family or work commitments?

I hope this helps?  You might be best off speaking to someone at your college if you are learning through college.  Please feel free to contact me for further advice.

  3. I know of people who have done/are doing this and those who have finished came out with excellent grades. But i guess you know it's going to be stressful and you need to be absolutely dedicated to your work ...also don't be surprised at a sudden lack of a social life!
