  1. Hi!

We've had iguanas and birds too.

Cutting birds toenails is tricky because they dont naturally heal well if a blood vessel is opened.  You need to keep styptic powder ready or the bird coudl actually "bleed out" and die.

For this reason, we let our vet do it.,  Additionally, most birds hate it and, unlike the sweet but not very bright iguanas,. they ARE smart enough to associate the procedure with who does it.  We'd rather they didnt associate it with us.

  2. omg you have a lot of guts to hold or touch a bird or iguana. ew ewewew lol . i could never do that i have to give u my props

  3. Bird claws have a vein in them. Do not trim the claw too close to the vein.Otherwise it isn't too rocket scientific.Like doing your own. Don't panic the bird whilst doing it though. I used to do my budgies and lovebirds, with a nail clipper.

  4. best to let a avairian vet do it ..my grey has hers filed never need cutting ..do you have ruff perches in the cage ?? these are very good at keeping the nails short

  5. Better to go to the vets, I took my African Grey yesterday for his doing.

It doesn't cost much and at least I know that it's done right.

  6. It's really inexpensive to have a birds claws trimmed at a pet store or vet's office. If you have no experience cutting a birds claws, I do not suggest you take the risk of doing it yourself. You could risk cutting them too short and seriously injuring the bird.
