Hlavackova/Hradecka outlast Jurak/Marosi for final showdown – Western and Southern Open 2012
Fifth seeded Czechs, Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka, battled past the Croatian-Hungarian tandem, Darija Jurak and Katalin Marosi, in a three-set mouth-watering match at the Western and Southern Open 2012 on Friday. They juggled up 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 victory
against their opponents’ to book a spot in the title-round at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Five event held in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The high flying Czechs displayed their true class to outsmart Jurak and Marosi in their first encounter. After bagging the match in one hour and 22-minutes, Hlavackova and Hradecka comfortably progressed into the final round at this outdoor hard court event.
Hlavackova and Hradecka assertively entered the Lindner Family Tennis Center. They lost their opening serve but quickly recovered in the very next game. Despite going 2-3 down after losing their serve again, the Czechs reeled off the proceeding three games
and took a 5-3 lead. They exchanged another serve break before carving out the opener with a 6-4 success.
The Croatian-Hungarian collaboration on the other end re-focused in the follow-up set. They got the coveted break in the third game to jump to a 3-1 lead. Jurak and Marosi kept their remaining serves with self-assurance and capitalised on another break chance
in the last game, eventually sealing the equaliser by winning six games to three.
In the super tie-breaker, the high-spirited Czechs re-gained their strength and got back in contention. They dominated in it and ultimately clinched the decider with a 10-8 score line.
The in-form Czechs are in awesome run of form. They recently captured silver medal at the London Olympics and made a final showdown at the Wimbledon Championships earlier this circuit. Hlavackova and Hradecka stunned second seeded Italians, Sara Errani and
Roberta Vinci, in a three set thriller en route to the final showdown. They are looking forward to capture their third year-to-date title. The Czechs conquered the WTA events in Auckland and Memphis.
Up next for the seeds are the conqueror of the match between eighth seeds, Katarina Srebotnik and Jie Zheng, and the Spanish tandem, Nuria Llagostera Vives and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez.
