I don't know if you want me to say this, but I think you're prettier than her, skin aside... But yeah, I'm with you on that one, I'm sick of all this "she's prettier because she's light". It's really damaging to the self image.

This is one thing I can say that I absolutely HATE about my people (lol). The comparisons they make with color. I'm not sure why we associate fair skin with beauty. Kinda shallow if you ask me. My mother told me when my aunt was born that they let her sleep on top of a pillow (like royalty or something), of course she was the only fair-skinned child of the bunch. I asked my grandmother about this and she claims she didn't make a difference in her kids based on complexion but I'm almost 100% sure that she did. It's just plain stupid. I think it dates back to slavery with the whole "house-n*****" vs. "field-n****" mentality. We really need to let that go.

I have a cousin that looks almost exactly like me, only she's extremely fair and I'm not. Of course she was the most appealing to everyone. It's not hard to figure out why.

My whole life I've been told that I was "light-skinned" but I've always considered myself caramel (which is more realistic). I refuse to date a guy that dates women for their complexion. I hate that. I can appreciate a guy that dates a woman for her beauty and not for her skin tone...that's hot! lol I know I got a little off topic.

i understand your situation. i look just like my older sister except i'm a little darker. and everyone says we look just the same except she's prettier because her skin is lighter. I really don't care and I just ignore it, people that say that are stuck in the past and have a slavery mentality.

black people are still stuck in pass..white people used to make differences between the light slaves and dark slaves by putting the light skinned ones in the house to work and leaving the dark outside..from your picture you are a beautiful girl and i personally think dark skinned people are beautiful with flawless skin..my daughter is dark and my family is creole..they always say mean hurtful stuff about my baby because of her skin just ignore it you know your the **** so just show your confidence along with your beauty and you'll learn not to give a **** what the next person thinks.
