Hmmm Bikes?

Question

Ok, I'm almost 15 and my mom is gonna get me a bike but not a good one because i am failing a couple of classes. Anyways I want to know whats a good bike that i can ride from like El Monte to Rosemead a few days a week that i can get for $150 or less at target or walmart.

a name brand used bike from craigslist is a far better value than the junk from the discount dept stores.  lot's of deals on craigslist in sg valley

Wal-Mart offers different models of bike at every store so I cannot tell you what bike to buy.

Yet,you have 150 bucks to spend so I can help with that known figure.

You should be able to find a bike with an aluminum frame and steel rigid fork with vbrakes for that cash.

Try to find aluminum vbrakes,if you can,not steel or plastic coated steel ones as the aluminum ones should flex less.

Stay away from a bike with a shock at this price range as you will be getting the worst fork ever made.[ever made]

If you oil everything and seep oil into the cable housings then this bike should be ok.Really try to get oil into the actual brake and shifter cable housing at all entry and exit points as friction is a big problem on a Walmart bike.

All your cables will stretch and need some serious adjusting at the cable tightening nut after a few rides.

It will most likely be a cheap gripshifter so remember that you will have to sometimes up shift two gears and drop it down one.[this is the way with most cheap gripshifters]

Ok man ur not exactly going to get a good bike for $150 us.

some points to tell your mum about bikes.

1. A bike under $150- underis a bit sharp

2. a cheap bike will break easily there for u will be in need of a new one in a few months.

3. cheap bikes use cheap parts which are often faluty and or dangerous

4. cheap bikes are often not but together by a profetinal. dangerous again.

The only bike i can suggest is a decent 2nd hand bike from a BIKE SHOP  this will ensure quallity- and a good 2nd hand bike will beat the cheap nasty brands any day
