I have just come off the phone with a dear colleague of long standing. We had so many heated arguments on ethical questions at Uni .. we had to become great friends or kill each other. He kept solidly to his 'old labour' ideals ... working entirely in State Schools .... He recently was offered a post (via what I would call a 'head hunting' type agency) with a private educational 'company' that accepts public money commissions to provide 'special needs' Ed. to vunerable children. He accepted the post -cos "It is PUBLIC money". Well he was appalled.... the educational provision was a greater butchery of ethics than the slaughter of the King's Sedgemoor during the Monmouth rebellion... He brought the main points up in a meeting today ( Students needs/ Every Child Matters/... finally Ofsted).. He was told that the holding company had a special relationship with Ofsted- don't worry - ..He resigned at this point. However he wonders is it true that Private Co's hold the Ofsted Keys?
