You need an espresso machine.

Froth your milk (there are youtube videos, it's hard to verbally explain, you have to see it). Basically you're going to hald the steam wand just under the surface of the milk to create tiny bubbles. If you can see them, they are too big. Your eyes will not be able to detect them, but your palate will.

Next, make your shots (I use 2 for a 16 oz latte, 1 for a 12 oz latte) You're going to need a good quality espresso bean, ground as espresso. Pack it tight (technically it's 40lbs pressure used to pack it) into the portafilter (that detachable handle with the metal filter attached). Place it back onto the machine and extract the espresso directly into your warmed (yes it matters) mug.

Slowly pour your frothed milk on top of the espresso. Ideally you get about 1 inch of frothy bubbles on top, give or take.

If you want flavoring, use a syrup....1 oz for 12 oz drink, 1.5 for a 16oz drink. Add chocolate (same amounts) for a mocha, white chocolate for a white mocha

Do you have an espresso machine?  2 shots of espresso, 2 pumps of the flavoring of your choice, and 1 cup of milk = a latte.
