Ho, Nicol and Crisanto make the Round 2 cut at Mr Price Pro Ballito – Surfing news
Hawaii’s Mason Ho, Australia’s Yadin Nicol and Brazil’s Peterson Crisanto emerged triumphant in their respective Round 1(Round of 96) heats at the third of eight events on the 2013 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Prime calendar, Mr Price Pro Ballito,
which recommenced at Ballito in South Africa on Wednesday, July 3, 2013.
America’s Tanner Gudauskas finished behind Ho in second place during the 19thheat of Round 1 to accompany the latter into the second round (Round of 48). New Zealand’s Jay Quinn finished in third place, while Brazil’s Halley Batista had to settle for fourth
place. Both the surfers were consequently eliminated from the competition.
The 20th heat saw America’s Simpson accompany Nicol into Round 2 after securing second place. Argentina’s Santiago Muniz and Germany’s Nic Von Rupp got removed from the contention for the event title after rounding out the bottom-two positions.
Brazil’s Raoni Monteiro advanced alongside Crisanto into the next round after finishing in second place during the 21st heat. Australia’s Blake Thornton finished third, while America’s Andrew Doheny finished fourth, thus getting ejected from the event.
The latest day of the competition saw 1.5 to 2 metre waves breaking at the primary event site, thus presenting the surfers with challenging surfers to perform in.
During the 19th heat, Ho showed that he meant business in the opening minutes of the four-man battle with an impressive 8.00-point ride. He backed it up with a 6.83-point ride, thus registering a heat-total of 14.83 points.
Gudauskas extended his life in the event with a two-wave total of 13.77 points, while Quinn and Batista finished with a heat-total of 9.17 and 7.10 points respectively to find themselves out of the event.
The 20th heat saw Nicol walked away with the win after registering a heat-total of 11.20 points, which included a 4.37-point ride of his first business-wave and a 6.83 off his second business-wave.
Simpson made the Round 2 cut by securing second place through a two-wave total of 10.87 points, whereas Muniz and Von Rupp rounded out the bottom-two positions after finishing with a heat-total of 10.07 and 9.26 points respectively.
Crisanto claimed a comprehensive victory over his rival in the 21st heat of Round 1. The Brazilian surfer posted an impressive 8.50 on the score-board off his first business-wave and backed it up with a 9.67-point ride, thus registering a two-wave total
of 18.17 points.
Monteiro finished in second place with a heat-total of 11.20 points to make the Round 2 cut, whereas Thornton and Doheny registered a two-wave total of 9.97 and 9.67 points respectively.
