Is there a shopping mall in Ho Chi Minh City besides those markets? I've been trying to Google this information but have come up empty?

Also, any adventurous types of excursions we can do there while we're there either in HCM or around that vacinity?

  1. I have not been to Ho Chi Minh City for a long time, so I do not know about shopping malls. I like the markets.

The tunnels are a good excursion, but NGY is wrong to say that is where the "communists" hid. It is where the members of the National Liberation Front of Southern Vietnam (NLF) hid. The NLF were a group of many different groups with communists comprising about 15% of the force. Many were Nationalists, others were ordinary peasants who disliked the dictatorial Diem regieme, others were Buddhist Monks, trade union officials and others.

Bien Hoa airbase,  Vung Tau (Cape St. Jacques) which was a R & R area for everyone and within the Australian Task Force area. Within HCM itself, visit the famous "Continental Hotel" for coffee & croissaints or drinks. Also the Chinese twin city to HCM, CHOLON.

While in Vietnam, will you be visiting other areas? I loved Hanoi when I was there in 1988 and would love to go back there, especially staying at the hotel on the large lake.

  2. yeah theres plenty around. all i remember is Diamond Plaza and Saigon Centre but mostly every one of them are the same; i dont think they are any different so maybe that was why i dont remember the names. i just walked to all the places that seems nice and Diamond Plaza was the nicest but the most expensive place to shop. Theres a bowling alley there too. Oh and I remember walking by the Louis Vuiton store (the official and real store; its real nice!) and i think one shopping mall is around that area and many other shops as well, mostly all brand name stores. It felt like walking in New York city or something. But stores like this will cost you more money than those markets where you cant really bargain as much as u want as in markets. Those places are just nice to look at and take pictures. I recommend shopping the night life; theres more to bargain for and its worth the money and besides its cheap! Hope this helps and have fun shopping! i wish i was still there shopping...

  3. For shopping malls you might wanna search for Diamond Plaza or Pacson (not sure if this is how it spell).

  4. diamond plaza

  5. #1  shopping place for  the $$ is An Dong..

others are Diamond  Plaza behind  the famous church  Notre  Dame  Cathedral  (Nha Tho Duc Ba)

Zen Plaza on Nguyen Trai street..(good food on 5th floor)

    Parkson Plaza

  6. Depend on what you are looking for.  Diamond Plaza in front of the old Presidential palace have mainly clothing. An Dong Market in 10th ward is for fabrics.  Saigon Super Bowl near the airport would have more electronic goods.  As for the Cuchi Tunnels  It is a claustrophobic tourist trap.

  7. You can probably go to those large malls by the name of Maximark, since that is the only name i can remember since i visited there 2 years ago.

For excursions you might want to try the Cu Chi tunnels where they will show you where the communists hid during the war.
