Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi?

Question

I'm going to spend 5 days in Vietnam in August with my girlfriend, what is the better place to go, Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi? We are more interested in the culture and history than night life and entertainment.

Ho Chi Minh, because they have great beaches, and in the water, they have huge mountains, and inside the mountains,  they have alot of culture and statues from a long time ago.

Shopping = HCMC

Culture = Ha Noi

HANOI it is... i've been reading articles and sites re both cities 'cause my sister will be there on august and will spend a year for her study re crafts and cultures and its always is HANOI seems the best place :)

If you are more interested in the culture and history, I suggest Ha Noi.

Why don't you visit both?

Oh, you are with your girlfriend...uhhhhhh, why don't visit Đà Lạt? ^_^

here are some better places with gigantic malls and skyscrapers if thats your thing

HaNoi by far has more culture and sites to visit.  You can even work a day trip into several close by sites too, Ninh Binh area and HaLong Bay for example.  Both very beautiful and romantic.

HaNoi has many Pagoda's, Momuments and beautiful lakes.  Nice to set at a little cafe and sip iced coffee watching the friendly people.

Defiantly Hanoi, french buildings, Vietnamese buildings,water puppets
