  1. The GED is an exam.  You don't have to go back to school for it- though most people do.  If you have already done all the high school coursework, you should be able to pass with no more than a little review of a study guide.

Most homeschoolers are able to go to college.  A portfolio review is common and many take state exams.  Talk to the schools you are interested in and see what their requirements are.  If they do require a GED, you should be able to get one pretty easily.

  2. homeschooling, haha, your spelling says it all....

but then i guess you could say, the cruelty says it all...

sorry. anyway, you should have been studying the right material to get your GED if you want to be a nurse, so you probably will have to go into college a year or two later.

  3. Good career choice!  I'm getting ready to start nursing school.  You should be able to get your diploma.  I was homeschooled most of my life and ended up graduating from private school, but if I hadn't I would've gotten my diploma anyways.  You should check that out.  Oh, and make sure you spell college and nurse right lol. That might help=)  Good luck!

  4. You probably don't need the GED, study for the SAT and take it, then apply to college with your home made transcripts from homeschool (use a computer to make it look official, but be upfront about them being homeschool transcripts.)

Chances are you'll get in easily, however, if they do ask for a GED, you can go get one then.  If you studied for the SAT the GED will be a snap because its an easier test.

The Homeschool Legal Defense Association has a list of colleges and their stances toward homeschooling, its not an exsaustive list, but it is good for an example.

The Tier 1 schools are the best in regards to how they treat homeschoolers, and the tier 3 are the worst.

They also have information on how to apply to college, prepare transcripts, etc.

  5. Your spelling and grammar show that you have a rough road ahead.  Going for a GED is a plausible way to start.

  6. Yeh you have to at least get your GED, but as long as you study a bit it's guite easy, I  took it and passed and only had a 9th grade ed., but I study for 2 months. Then when going to get into a college you have to take a college placement test to see where your at in school.

  7. I was home schooled through high school through the American School of Correspondence so I have a real diploma; however so long as your parents right out a transcript telling the subjects you took in high school and your grades you shouldn't have a problem.

You will need to either take a placement test offered by your college, the ACT or SAT. I personally took the COMPASS placement test that was offered by my college. You'll probably need your GED too, but you can ask a college adviser.

And as a minor note to those downing home schoolers, most of the home schoolers I know in college get better grades than those who went to college. It is not about whether or not someone is home schooled or not, but the quality of the teacher. If the child's parent was a good teacher than there is no problem. I know public school students that are dumb as rocks, and judging by some of these posts many aren't taught politness.

  8. It is wrong.  The diploma and transcript that your parents sign is every bit as legit as those issued from a public or private school.  These, in addition to your SAT/ACT scores, should be enough to get you in to whatever college you qualify for.

Harvard and Stanford enroll homeschool students with a GED...I don't know that pretty much any other college (outside of the UC system) should have problem with it.

  9. Im not really sure how home schooling works with college. I would go talk to an advisor from a local college and they will help you. My guess is you will have to take some type of test. ACT, SAT, or just some type of placement test that shows then what level of education/knowledge you have and what classes you should be placed in based on your scores.
