I've just taught my 18 mth old to sleep on her own finally and i'm enjoying the extra time at night. Only thing is i feel like i'm wasting the time by watching tv. I don't like reading much but think i would enjoy doing crafts. Any suggestions? I was thinking of learning to sew or knit or something that is productive. Thanks

  1. How about knitting ?

  2. Sewing, Knitting, and crocheting are all fun, but if thats not your cup of tea, you might try doodling. There is this wonderful art concept called, Artist Trading Cards...they are the size of every day playing cards. And you decorate them, draw on them, paint, doodle, there are so many ideas and there are so many groups that'll help you and encourage you. I can't knit, and sewing takes too long when I want to feel the gratification now. I was so happy to discover ATC's and other altered art projects. If you want to know more, I would be happy to share a few links!

    And all that ... Jassz

  3. You could learn how to sew in the privacy of your own home and   when its convenient for your by looking at a kit designed to teach how to hand sew.  The kit comes with a DVD and will teach you 12 functional stitches that you can do by hand.  It will get you off to a good start by learning the language of sewing, and the use technical stitching names.  When you progress to a machine, if you desire to do that, you will be ready because you'll have a better understanding of sewing because you know the fundamentals.  If you do all the projects in this kit, you'll have a good foundation for quilting, making repairs & embroidery.

As a sewing instructor, this is the first place I start when teaching students.  We do not go on a machine first; remeber, the machine  came in use during the 1860's, prior to that, all sewing, even the elegant parkas made by Inuits were made by hand.  Sewing is very handy, especially when you have kids!

You can view the kit at:

The best of luck to you!  Have a good time with your baby!!!

  4. how about what I do, my hobby is my passion. I do prestamped, prequilted cross stitch baby quilts, but they also have other quilts then just for babies.

The best place to buy them I must confess is ebay, (they have me madd as ever, but thats another story). Anyways, when you get the kit, or kits, they already come with the floss, needle, & easy to follow instructions too.

if you dont buy them off of ebay, you can get them at Micheals, & Hobby Lobby (they cost around the same price at each place).

But will for worn you, at those 2 place the kits can cost around $35-45.00 each. thats why I suggested ebay. Also you might look at www.craiglist.com, & also www.powersellersunit.com (they have alot of auction sites to look at to buy things too.)

  5. hi...I have crocheted for several years and love it...but i am learning to knit now and can't put it down..my husband in the military is deployed and i have skin cancer (being a black woman, only 2% or dark people get it, and I was one of the lucky ones, LOL) and can't get outside much to work with my flowers like i want to....I don't know what i would do if I didn't have my knitting, I love it...i have a wonderful teacher from church and we get together each Friday nite, it is wonderful
