Question:

Hobby that can act as a stress reducer?

Hi all, I'm currently seeking a new hobby that can help me relax but still be beneficial to learn. I've been learning origami this week but I'm looking for something else to try when I get frustrated with this. I don't really have patience to learn a language (not enough time to devote to it either). I don't enjoy cooking at all and I have no room for gardening. I already draw/paint/color. I can sew/knit already.

I know I kind of narrowed that down there, but anyone have an idea as to what a good hobby for me might me? I would love something that could maybe be a resume boosted (not a must though), and that's hands-on (thus why I don't want to learn a language at the moment). Any suggestions are great, thanks so much!

  1. jump into your local community theatre.  They are ALWAYS looking for volenteers and with the right people, you can gain a valueable skill or skillS.  Drafting, Designing, Carpentry, Painting (for theatre which is different than painting for canvas), Property construction, Prop maintainance, Costuming, Railman, Weight loading, Rigging, Lighting Design, Gaffing, Lightboard Operation, Spot Light Operation, Light Focus, Lightboard Programming, Audio and Sound Design, Sound Board Operation, Sound Recording, Sound line laying, Sound Mixing....

The list goes on and on.  Many times the show just wants people to pick this up and put it there, so you don't really necessarily need to know the work before you begin it.  But I encourage learning on a daily basis.  It can be very relaxing if you get interested in it and begin to understand the inner workings of a show and how they work.  And some times, the show calls for a specific item or need that no one knows how to create or even invision until someone creative picks up the clue and jumps in on it.

  2. For stress, you need to do something that requires movement. It triggers beneficial brain chemicals that can calm you down. Pysical activity can be a great hobby if you set goals and continually challenge yourself.  Try learning dances on websites like  http://dancesfromthahood.mtv.com/

or get out and jog, power walk, hike up tall hills,  or shoot hoops. Anything to get your heart pumping and break a sweat.

    .

  3. photography, web design, graphic design, piano/keyboard, or another instrument, palm reading, feng shui, fitness class, karate, sport, dancing, candle making, scrap booking, video/dvd monatges

  4. Take some walks in a Botanical Garden or Zoo. Visit a Museum. Take Bicycle rides. I am getting the feeling that

an other Hobby creating something would add to your

frustrations. You may also read the Book: "The Power of

positive thinking". It has been around a long time but

will never be out of step.

    Lots of Luck to you.
