Hockey Canada announces the national junior team for the camp of 2013 World Junior Championship
2013 World Junior Championship is to be held in Russia from 26th December 2012 to 5th January 2013 and the Canadian team for the Championship has been announced by the Hockey Canada for the camp which is to be held in mid December.
The camp of the national junior team of Canada would be held in Calgary, Alberta at the Winsport Athletic and Ice Complex. The exact dates of the camp are 11th to 15th December which means that the camp is only for five days.
The team has to prepare very well because they have not been playing the top action of National Hockey League (NHL) because of the lock out and on the other hand, the hosts Russia, who would organise the event in the city of Ufa, have been playing regularly
and are more familiar with their conditions.
The Russian players have been playing in their native country’s hockey league, which is Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). One player that everybody would be looking for is Nail Yakupov, the first overall pick of the 2012 NHL Draft.
Russian team had beaten the Canadian team when they faced off in the series which was held few months ago.
The Canadian team would be coached by Steve Spott, who was the team’s assistant coach when they won the second position in the 2010 World Junior Championships. Spott would have many others to assist and help him.
This would also help the players as most of the coaches are from teams and they would be familiar with the players and players would also feel comfortable with them.
Spott himself is the coach of Kitchener Rangers’ team and other coaches are Don Nachbaur from Spokane of the Western Hockey League (WHL), Mario Duhamel of Drummondville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and third assistant coach would be Andre
Tourigny of Rouyn-Noranda, also from QMJHL.
The last time Canadian team won the World Junior Championships was way back in 2009 and they have not won it since the last three championships. They would definitely be looking to end the drought and win the title by taking the trophy home.
