Hockey Canada names 37 players’ roster for the national team camp for 2013 World Junior Championship
Hockey Canada has announced the players for the training camp of the 2013 World Junior Championship of ice hockey, which is to be played from 26th of the December 2012 to 5th January 2013. There are 37 players announced for the camp
which is to be held from the 11th of December to 13th December 2012.
There are six players in the 37 players’ roster which were also the part of Canadian team that lost in the semi-finals of the last championship and had won the third position by beating Finland in the bronze medal game.
The camp is to be held in Calgary, Alberta, at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park. Further players will be short listed after watching their performances in the training camp and final roster to travel to the Russian city, Ufa for the championships.
Kevin Prendergast, the head scout of Hockey Canada announced the names of all the players who were selected and showed confidence in players who are selected for the second time. He thinks it would be great for the team to have some experience with it as
he said in a press conference,
"Anytime you get an opportunity to get those type of returning players in this tournament, it's huge for everyone in the dressing room".
Kevin also believes that now those players would have got better and also more mature than they were last year, as he said,
“When you come back a second time, you're a better person for it, stronger and a little more mature."
The six players who were a part of team last time and selected once again, are forwards Ryan Strome, Boone Jenner, Mark Scheifele and Jonathan Huberdeau from New York Islanders, Columbus Blue Jackets, Winnipeg Jets and Florida Panthers respectively. There
are also two defensemen from last year’s team, which are Dougie Hamilton and Scott Harrington from Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins.
Team’s head coach Steve Spott also talked to the reporters and clarified that their main aim is to win the gold medal in the championship as he said,
"We're not basing positions and opportunity on age. It's going to be whether or not they can help us win a gold medal."
