Hockey India to be recognised by International Hockey Federation – Hockey News
The Supreme Court of India decided on March 11 to continue with their previous decision of continuing to recognise Hockey India (HI) as the authorised hockey body instead of the controversial Indian Hockey Federation (IHF).
This decision was pronounced by a bench of two persons of the Supreme Court of India after knowing that the International Hockey Federation (FIH) recognises Hockey India for running sports in the region. This order will remain enforced until the next hearing
that is to take place on April 4.
The former order of recognising HI on August 27 last year had helped the body to organise the Delhi Common Wealth Games 2010 and Asian Games Guangzhou 2010 in China. Yet again now HI is authorized to run the training camps and select the Men’s and Women’s
team for the Azlan Shah Cup in May.
Above all, the court’s order includes the clause that Hockey India would also consider any options or advices given by the Indian Olympic Association.
It is a relief to know that the scenario has become clear regarding which body is empowered to make the decisions for the sport running within the country. After about more than three months since the Asian Games, the Indian hockey team will get to train
themselves for their next coming event. The national training camp for the Men’s and Women’s hockey teams that was to begin on March 11 and got indefinitely delayed has now been announced. The Men’s hockey national camp is to start on March 15.
HI has taken control of the situation and will single-handedly disclose the list of feasible players for the national camp followed by the previously proposed panel of coaches.
The Secretary General of HI Mr. Narinder Batra said, “We are still waiting for the final list of coaches and players cleared by the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Hopefully we will get it by tomorrow and the camp will begin from March 15 in Delhi.” As
proposed by the HI, Harendra Singh will be the national coach for Indian Men’s hockey team.
The court’s order also has permitted HI to come up with a team together with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for the Annual Sultan Azlan Shah Cup that is to begin on May 5 in Ipoh Malaysia.
The Women’s national hockey camp will be held from April 1, according to the recent plans. The player’s list for this camp shall be known publicly later this month. It has come to notice that the IHF has plans of introducing their own Women’s hockey Championships
in the month of April at Bangalore. This means that there are chances for another conflict between the sport bodies.
