Hockey Legend Scott Niedermayer Hopeful of Hockey Hall of Fame Induction -NHL Update
Pavel Bure, Mats Sundin, Joe Sakic and Adam Oates were the lucky ones this time around as they were inducted during this year’s Hockey Hall of Fame ceremony in downtown Toronto. Scott Niedermayer, who is a two-time Olympic champion and four-time Stanley
Cup championship winner, is still in line to be added on the prestigious list and his hopeful for future events.
The veteran former defenseman was also in Toronto during the ceremony, but for other reasons as his son was participating in a local ice hockey matchup. He found out about the event through an old friend and current front office member of the Dallas Stars,
Joe Nieuwendyk, but was not able to take part in it.
Obviously, he does want to be inducted someday, but he is not focusing on that right now and wants to deal with it when the time comes, which he believes will be right for him.
"People bring it up to me. I try not to think about it. If it happens, it happens. I'll deal with it then," Niedermayer said, according to NHL.com. "It would be a heck of an honour. That type of thing is obviously out of my control. We'll wait and see."
"That's just my personality. I'm a guy who likes to go about my business and let things fall where they may," Niedermayer added. "I think that's how I played the game. Probably not going to change my stripes now that I'm not playing."
Niedermayer was drafted by the New Jersey Devils during round-one of the 1991 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft as the third overall. The native of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, had a colourful career throughout his time in the league and played with
not just New Jersey Devils, but also the Anaheim Ducks.
His best season came with the Anaheim Ducks during 2005-2006, coming fresh out of the lockout, as he potted 63 points (13 goals, 50 assists) in 82 games. In total, the former defender has 1,263 games under his belt and boasts 740 points, consisting of 172
goals and 568 assists with 784 minutes in the penalty box.
