Hockey Manipur holds Manipur Olympic Association responsible for hockey chaos – Hockey News
Hockey Manipur (HM) has strongly criticised the Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) due to their attitude with the two hockey bodies of the region namely HM and Manipur Hockey (MH).
Both the state representing bodies are headed by separate officials. HM Secretary TH. Manihar spoke out that the poor condition of the sport in the state has resulted due to the politics played by the MOA. He reported this in his press conference that was
held on July 31 at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium in Imphal, Manipur.
The two coinciding bodies of Manipur have raised confusion and problems for both the players and the sport for their promotion.
Earlier, the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) had asked the two separate Men’s and Women’s body to join up into a sole organisation and steps were initiated for the cause.
However, due to the non-serious behaviour of MOA towards the process, few controversies took place among the officials regarding their advices being overlooked. This led the matter into court cases against HM.
During this period another organisation was formed under the Presidency of Ksh. Thoiba Singh, named Manipur Hockey (MH) that got recognised by the MOA.
Since then there has been two hockey bodies that caused issues regarding the conduct of the sport in the region.
HM admitted that they are not willing to rely upon the MOA President and Secretary and has asked the other committee members to resolve the issue with an appropriate solution.
Furthermore, Manihar has taken a step forth and invited the conflict-ridden MH officials to merge-up for the development of hockey in Manipur. He has also proposed to vacate his position so as to allow some of their officials to be replaced for the betterment
of the sport.
Seconding the HM Secretary, the President of the body, N. Momon Devi, has also expressed similar intention and has invited all the hockey fans to contribute in the sport’s development. She also offered to step down from her post if it will bring improvement
in the situation. It will be interesting to see how HM, MH and MOA can settle their differences for the sake of the sport.
