Personally I'm stoked; I was mourning the loss of the song and cursing the CBC left right and centre. Thoughts?

  1. It's going to be very weird to turn on HNIC & not hear that theme song.  CBC should have ponied up the cash, HNIC is an institiution!  they better come up with one h**l of a theme for next season!

  2. Well said alt-tab-f8. I prefer watching games on Saturday night on HNIC and hearing that song. Why can't TSN be original? I'm sure a deal would have worked out eventually.

  3. I don't blame CBC for their decision. Why should they give the b|tch more money than she deserves?

On the plus side, at least the theme will still be around. Although it won't be quite the same.

  4. They should have just let it go.  TSN has nothing.  Although CBC just keeps sucking.

  5. I just posted a similar question not 2 seconds ago. (just by happen stance). I despise TSN and I really loathe their hockey coverage. They are nothing but a bunch of chatterboxes that love to hear themselves yammering on about nothing. So, for me, I am glad the song will still be mainstream, but I am not happy one bit about TSN having it.

  6. Im glad the song is still aoround as far as im concerned its like a second anthem of canada, its been around for A LOONG time. But id rather see it on CBC  lmao pierre mcGuire is a tool hes on like 5 different networks

  7. Well bought by CTV actually, who own TSN, RDS, and a bunch of non-cable stations.

I know CBC just renewed their HNIC deal, but if I remember correctly, CTV also submitted a bid during those negotiations.  Makes me wonder if they are going to make a stronger bid to get all of HNIC away from the CBC the next time the contract comes up for renewal.

CBC may regret this in the future.

  8. Watch, CBC will somehow lose rights to HNIC in a decade or so. They lost Cuthbert, they lost the theme song...I don't think anybody there knows what they're doing anymore.

  9. What did CBC think would happen? I'm glad CTV picked it up & TSN will play the heck out of it. It's our money anyways, so CBC might as well save us $500/ saturday, So they can put on more c**p. Atta boy to CTV

  10. It's not about the song or the emotions or 'saving' anything. It's cutthroat business plain and simple. It's worth overpaying for the song for TSN to capitalize on the attention this issue is getting and stick it to a competitor.  Bonus for the song writer, smug, sh[t eating grin for TSN and yet another black eye for CBC. Someone's getting fired. Someone else is getting a Porsche bonus for capitalizing.
