  1. Yo, turn the channel.

(ESPN is trying to brainwash you and they are using Tiger to do it)

  2. You have an option.  Turn the channel.

  3. When hockey becomes more popular in the USA than Tiger Woods, ESPN will show more hockey news than Tiger news.

If you're not happy with it do something about it. If each of you get 100 other people to write ESPN saying they want more hockey on the station. Than maybe it will happen. Maybe Tiger was right. People don't watch hockey any more.

  4. Tiger Woods is about to become the new spokesperson for ESPN, he did say

"he didn't think that anyone watched hockey anymore"!

Something ESPN agrees with since they don't show any NHL games & are anti-NHL.

  5. Amen, brother!

But, dude, you're talking about the same network that effectively banished hockey from its coverage several years ago, so what did you expect, honestly?  s***w ESPN, just don't watch them--what does it say when they trot out Barry Smellrose as their hockey "expert"?

You know, NBC was just as bad when they got around to covering hockey.  Every other commercial was "and stay tuned for coverage of the Hitachi/McDonald's Bran Flakes Open" or something or other.  s***w them too, letting Pierre McGuire do on-ice coverage.  I hope one time he really does get to go Behind the Glass--with no glass!

Hey tomjc, if you're Canadian, how about you support your sport instead of making fun of the rest of us?

  6. Well, the initials do stand for "Entertainment and Sports Programming Network." Golf is not a sport, but some knuckleheads (to use Mike Wilbon's term) think of it as entertainment.

Really: We can start calling Tiger Woods an athlete if he can get off a drive without getting sacked by Ray Lewis or hit by a pitch from Josh Beckett, and if he can putt the ball in the hole without it getting knocked away by either Tim Duncan or Martin Brodeur.

I tore a knee ligament a few years ago, and it was in a baseball game.  (OK, a softball game on a lousy little elementary school field chosen because it was a good central location for the bunch of us, mostly high school kids then.) This was after I'd gotten a hit.  (OK, an infield hit, I beat out a weak grounder to third and the third baseman didn't have much of an arm.) I don't call myself an athlete.  But I was more of an athlete that day than we've ever seen Tiger Woods being.

  7. Honestly.... ESPN can't go 5 minutes without a Tiger reference.

If I see his face one more time, I'm gonna vomit.

  8. i don't watch ESPN, but i am still hearing a lot about him. he's all over the internet and news too

  9. you sound surprised.

our two cents opinion doesn't count. the versus contract is benefitting those w/ the biggest voice (biggest wallets). there is no perceived problem, by those who make the decisions.

this is an old debate. this horse died a long time ago.

furthermore, consider the # of people who like golf. it's relaxing for them. (i prefer to relax by watching actual athletes crush each other into the boards, but it's a free country / continent.) after all, we're talking about the network who goes into orgasmic shock anytime the Red Sox and/or Yankees do absolutely anything (or even nothing at all). they make their own stories. you gotta be able to take espn for what it's worth, rather than putting them on a pedestal. they get some things right. but many things they do not. unfortunately, they really don't have much of a competitor.

tiger will always win over hockey. whether we like it or not. besides, let's call it what it is ... Tiger is one of the classiest "sports people" (not an athlete ... sorry ... thumbs down away). if more "sports people" could be like him, we wouldn't have as much of this NBA ref fiasco, a dress code for the NBA, MLB drug problems, and NFL criminal issues.

the bottom line is that this is the most annoying part of the year. i go into hockey withdrawal. you might as well be proactive and come up w/ a good hobby, or else you will be miserable until October.

add - tom, w/ all due respect (you have good answers), it's like Lions fans saying that we'll boycott an entire season just to show Matt Millen that he's gotta go, or improve the team. the bottom line is that because of the NFL revenue sharing contract, the Lions will STILL make a profit (or come close to it), by riding on the coat tails of its 1/32nd share of the other 31 teams. i hear what you're saying, but even if the whole hockey forum got 100 people each, we still can't compete w/ the type of money that versus and espn see pass their desks on a daily basis. unfortunately (like government), "pure" democracy is gone. (side note: furthermore, there would be a lot more people petitioning for golf, NBA, and MLB, and they would win out. because they never grew up around hockey and are too lazy to learn a new sport. (similar situation w/ soccer).)

  10. I would love to see that happen but I'm not holding my breath!!   During the Stanley Cup playoffs, ESPN shows (SportsCenter, PTI, Around The Horn, Jim Rome etc) talked about NBA playoffs, not the Finals, MORE than they did the Stanley Cup!!!!!  Until hockey comes back to ESPN (which I hope will be soon) I think hockey will be a side-story on ESPN.

  11. It would be great if espn gave hockey more time on the air.During the cup playoffs there was maybe 5 minutes of hockey.People need to be exposed to this fantastic sport and more time on espn more people will see how talented these guys are.I live in Ohio. There were no ice skating rinks anywhere near me.I never watched or cared to.In my 20's a roommate in college was playing 'sega' hockey and I played. Now I will watch hockey before football.I named my oldest son Darius(after Kasparitis) Love the Pens.Another great thing about the men of hockey is you never hear a hockey player in a shoot out in a night club, arrested with a gun, dui, drugs? As far as Tiger--He lost my respect with the comment he made about hockey during the finals.Even if he does not care for the sport he should show some class and respect the fantastic tradition and the men who live it.
